MacMillan Longest Day Golf Challenge
Wholehearted congratulations to Ian McGowan, Mark Tinker and Scott Thomson for taking on and completing this challenge. On the 1st tee at 5:00 am this morning the three intrepid golfers finally walked off the 18th green at 9:50 pm having played 72 holes in mostly atrocious weather. The weather was so bad that the course was closed to mere mortals in the afternoon. With the best two scores counting at each hole the Strathmore version of the Three Musketeers recorded stableford scores of 69, 76, 79 and 76. This feat of endurance, especially in the weather conditions encountered today, deserves to be recognised and the best way to do so would be to sponsor their efforts if you have not already done so. Donations can be made by contacting any of the guys, via the collecting tins in the clubhouse and the shop or via their sponsorship web page at:

The Centre has received the attached request for volunteer marshals for the Scottish Senior Open taking place at the Fairmont St Andrews Torrance Course during the wek of 15 - 21 August:

Dear Sir/Madam,
During the week of August 15th-21st, The Fairmont St Andrews Torrance Course will be hosting The 2011 Cleveland/Srixon Scottish Seniors Open.
I am writing this email to offer the members of your club the opportunity to be part of a great event. We have various roles throughout the week including walking scorer, carry board scorer, walking marshall and static scoreboard scorers- We have around 100+ roles during each of the event days so there should be an enjoyable role for all! Famous golfers like Sam Torrance, Ian Woosnam, Costantino Rocca, Sandy Lyle and defending champion Barry Lane will all be attending, so its a great opportunity to watch them close up inside the ropes.
In return for the volunteers assistance, they will all receive a complimentary lunch and a volunteers gift package. In addition, all golfers will be invited to a golf day at the resort in September, with the chance to win great prizes.
I would be very grateful, if you could forward this email on to all of your members informing them of this great opportunity to be part of a European Seniors Tour Event or alternatively print off the attached file and post on your notice board.
As per the attachment, all of your members who are interested, should email Tournament Head Marshall - Alastair Duff at alsduff@yahoo.com
Once again, Thank you in advance of any assistance you may be able to offer us. We look forward to hearing from many of your members.
Kind Regards

Club Championship Semi Final Results
Experience overcame youth as Norman Dyce and Iain Butchart beat their opponents in last nights matches over a still but chilly Strathmore course.
In the first match Norman played near faultless golf as Mark Scott had the unenviable task of trying to outdo the cunning of his opponent but on this occassion had to accept second best as Norman finished two under par and with a win 5&4. Another impressive performance from Norman.
The other semi-final was the proverbial nail biter, game of two halves and pretty much everything else as Chris Flannigan established a good lead over the front nine with impressive ball striking that would have blasted most opponents right of course. Iain however showed gritty determination and forced his way back into the match with an eagle on the 11th, leading to a back nine of three under and his comeback was sealed on the 19th. Exhausting stuff to watch let alone play in.
Well done to both and good luck to you both in the final.
Please come and support all the finals Gents, Ladies and Juniors on Saturday 2nd July.

Final Two Make Their Mark
The Tankard Final this year will be contested by Mark Melville and Mark Tinker as they both played their way past tough opponents who admitted to not quite hitting the heights last night. Not to take anything away from the golf played by the two winners who were in irresistable form.
For the record
Mark Melville beat Ali Low 3&2
Mark Tinker beat Gary McLuskey 6&5
Good luck to both in the final.

Milnathort G.C. 4-1 Strathmore G.C.
The final match in this seasons Perth and Kinross Scratch League for us saw our team travel down the M90 with tough opponents in Milnathort. With the club championship semis taking place at Strathmore a hastily arranged team of just four took to battle.
Michael Brodie made his Gents Scratch League debut and could not have faced a tougher opponent in Thomas White a plus handicap golfer who showed no mercy on the night but well done to Michael(I think they call it "part of the learning curve").
Scott Thomson and Rory Tinker also both tasted defeat with our win coming from Allan Easton who has remained unbeaten throughout the scratch league matches. Quite an achievement.
Well done to the nine players who have taken part in matches this season a huge improvement on previous years in what is a high level of golf.

Crieff G.C. 3-2 Strathmore G.C.
In the penultimate Scratch League week of the season our team of five travelled across Perthshire to meet league leaders Crieff in a crucial match as far as progressing into the latter stages of the competition. Once again the team showed signs of the progress they are making this season however came up short on this occassion.
Reverses for Norman Dyce and Iain Butchart were followed by a sizeable win for Rory Tinker, a win at 18th for the so far undefeated Allan Easton. Unfortunately Scott Thomson missed out narrowly as his opponent squeezed out the match at the last hole.
So frustration for the team but clear again that we now have a scratch league team who are effective at this level and with a bright future.
Next week the team travel to Milnathort for the last group stage match.

Strathmore G.C. 3.5 - 1.5 Kinross G.C.
It was the second round tie of the Perth and Kinross Bell Trophy tonight with our team of five up against Kinross. In a match that started in rain of almost monsoon proportions but finished in a gentle summer evening we prevailed in quite a close match.
Wins for Allan Easton 5&4, Scott Thomson 3&1, Iain Butchart 3&1, followed by a one hole reverse for Mark Tinker and a halve for Willie McGregor resulted in a wining margin of 2 matches.
So progress into the last eight and we will see who we are playing in next weeks draw.
Well done all five who represented the club tonight against a really good bunch from Kinross who were very impressed with our golf course.

Strathmore G.C. 4.5 - 0.5 King James VI
It is a measure of how our Scratch League team are progressing that they welcomed King James to Strathmore last night confident of a positive outcome and so it proved as the team won comfortably on this occasion.
Wins for Norman Dyce, Scott Thomson, Iain Butchart (making his season debut) and Allan Easton were followed by a half for Stewart Flannigan resulting in a winning margin of four.
This sets up the team for the key match next week away at Crieff and they can approach the match in a positive frame of mind.

Gents Invitation Day - re-scheduled date
As many of you will be aware, the Cash for Kids Charity Open competitions last Sunday had to be abandoned as the course was unplayable, and in places unsafe, due to high winds. With the agreement of the Committee, the Open competitions have been re-scheduled for Saturday 3 September, the original date for the Gents Invitation Day. The competition schedule has been re-arranged and the Gents Invitation Day will now take place on Sunday 11 September with a two tee start at 1030 am with a meal and presentation of prizes at the end of play. Please make a note of this change in your diary and/or fixture list. Last year's invitation day was very well subscribed and hopefully this change of date will not cause any inconvenience.
