Match -v- Bjørnefjorden Golfklubb

Our friends from Bjørnefjorden Golfklubb in Norway are returning on their biennial visit to Strathmore on Sunday 16 September. This has proved to be a friendly and good humoured match on previous occasions and will no doubt be the same this year. While details have yet to be finalised we need a team of 21 players (ladies and gents) to challenge our visitors with a two tee start at 1015, followed by a meal.
Further details will follow over the next few days but please indicate your availability to play as soon as possible. A sign up sheet will be posted in the clubhouse this weekend.

Forthcoming committee vacancies

A number of vacancies will arise on the committee at the end of the season. The club relies on an active and involved committee to ensure the smooth running of competitions and other club business. Any member interested in becoming a committee member is asked to notify their interest to the Captain of any current committee member. Similarly, if any member would like further information on the work of the committee before deciding whether to take things further, do not hesitate to speak to the Captain or any other committee member.

Gents Invitation Day - Saturday 15 September

Members are reminded that the Gents Invitation Day takes place on Saturday 15 September with a shotgun start at 10.00am. This provides an opportunity to invite a friend  (no green fee involved) and play for a selection of prizes (1st, 2nd & 3rd place vouchers and a number of spot prizes). This social day has been well supported in recent years and it is hoped that this trend continues. A sign up sheet is in the weekend competition folder in the clubhouse.

Match v King James VI - Sunday 9 September

This annual match for the Mole Trophy, played since the club was formed, is scheduled to take place next Sunday (9 September) and is being hosted by Strathmore this year. Despite a sign up sheet having been posted on the noticeboard for several weeks, very few members have indicated their willingness to play in this match. Please support this long standing match by signing up as soon as possible. The team (12 man) will be selected next Friday and details posted on this blog. Thank you in anticipation of your support.

The Winners of The Summer Tri-Am which was held yesterday was The Golden Oldies which consisted of Kay Finlay, David Grant and Ali Low with a score of 153.
Close runners up were Team Here We Go Again who were Lesley Haynes, Sally Fenner and Graham Haynes with a score of 154.

AUGUST MEDAL SATURDAY

Due to the weather on Saturday afternoon and several fairways and greens being waterlogged the Committee decided to cancel the above event. As a result all completed rounds will not count towards any handicap changes. As for the entry fees etc your competition secretary will try and ensure that a refunds will be ready for collection by next Saturday at the latest. You may remember that there is still a roll over of the twos from the RNLI competition. This will be added to next Saturdays Saturday's medal.

MIXED INVITATION DAY UPDATE

Due to poor response to The Mixed Invitation Day next Sunday 2nd September, it has been decided that should any Members wish to play as a mixed couple, they are welcome to enter this competition. Unfortunately they will not be allowed to win the main prizes but can take part in the individual spot prize holes. The entry sheet is on the Mixed Board.

We would like to remind Members that there is no green fee to pay for their guests on this day and with great prizes to play for, is sure to be an enjoyable day. The tee times for the above event will have to be booked at the centre by individual club members as you would normally do for a Wednesday medal.

As you are aware there will be no gent's open this year on the 1st of September. The committee has decided to run an extra medal on this day which will not be drawn. The available tee times will be from 8.00am to 9.30am and 12.00 to 13.00.

Our annual challenge match against Drumoig takes place this Sunday and it is our turn to host the match. A twelve man team is required and despite there having been a sign up sheet posted in the changing room for 4 weeks only 6 members have so far indicated a willingmess to play. WOODEN SPOON RESULT

The annual challenge match between the Ladies and Gents for The Wooden Spoon took place yesterday. The result went in favour of the Gents with a 41/2 - 11/2 victory. All members who took part enjoyed the day and the match was played with friendly rivalry to the fore.

Congratulations go to Mike Grieve who holed his tee shot at the 4th today. He was playing in the morning round of the Endurance Trophy, his playing partner was Rob Storie. This is Mike's second hole in one in his golfing life. Well done!

Footnote:

As you may be aware Dennis McDonald had his golf equipment stolen and as a result had to play on Wednesday with all equipment borrowed and it looked as if it had seen better days. I played with with Dennis on Wednesday and he played as if the clubs had been made for him. So congratulations on your victory. Can the person who stole the clubs please return them as Dennis could be looking at being a single handicap player by October.
