Welcome from Gents Captain – Mike Stiell

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to Strathmore Golf Club.  I am immensely proud to be given the opportunity to be Captain of this great wee club and I look forward to meeting everyone in the near future.

We are a small club that is diverse, friendly and welcoming and we hope you will join us by embracing these qualities.

The Club has an excellent relationship with the Centre, who are generous with the requests of the Club for which we enjoy a full programme of fun and competitive golf.  Responsibilities of The Club extend to members golf handicaps, competition golf and inter club friendly matches with other clubs.  The Centre have responsibility for everything in the clubhouse and on the course.

We have a web / blog page http://strathmoregolfclubgents.blogspot.com/ in which club information is published.  There are pages for the various sections within the club, Ladies, Seniors and Juniors.  The blog page contains links to policy documents and links to relevant golf web pages.

Each of the committee members has an area of responsibility and an explanation of their role and responsibility will follow in this document.  I ask that if you have any questions on a specific area of golf, then could you please address these to the convenor in the first instance.  If you have a complaint of any sort, these should be in writing, addressed to the Gent's Captain and sent to the Gent's Secretary, these will be dealt with as soon as possible and within the timescales set in the club constitution.  Likewise, if there are any comments in which the club and its operations could be improved then we also welcome these.

I want to thank you for joining Strathmore Golf Club and I hope you enjoy your time with us.  Keep your ball on the short stuff and hole all your putts.

The committee for this year is as follows:

Captain                                   Mike Stiell

Vice Captain                           Gavin Greig

Secretary                                 Steve Saunders

Handicap Secretary                 Ian Cameron

Competition Secretary            Craig Muir

Senior Convenor                     Keith Ewan

Match Secretary                      Chris Flannigan

Committee                              Scott Thompson Fred Barber

Handicap Secretary    Ian Cameron

The handicap secretary is responsible for every members handicap.  To play in any of the club competitions, the member must have a valid handicap index.  If any member wishes to obtain a handicap, they must submit either 3 cards of 18 holes over any course or 6 cards of 9 holes over any course.  The card must be marked by a member holding a valid handicap.  The cards must be returned to the handicap secretary who will issue a handicap as soon as possible.

In 2021 the new World Handicap System (WHS) comes into being.  New terminology has to be learned by all golfers of all abilities.  The term Handicap Index is the constant number and one which will be the one every golfer will use when playing golf either at their home course or when visiting at another club.  Every golf course has a slope rating and a course rating for every tee.  These ratings can be found near the 1st tee at each club and will give players their Playing / Course Handicap which is the handicap a player will play off during a competition.  The introduction of the WHS, scores counting towards handicap can be submitted on any day that the players desires.  The player should go to the Scottish Golf App or to the clubhouse PSI and notify through any of these portals their intention of submitting a General Play Score.

There are phone apps which are available to help players in the calculation of their Playing / Course Handicap and Entry of scores and are available on Apple Store or Play Store these are:

Scottish Golf App

HowDidiDo App

Course Handicap App

Competition Secretary – Craig Muir

The club has a full fixture list of competitions over the season and these can be viewed in the fixture book given to all members on payment of their annual subscription.

A list of all the competitions and the rules and conditions on each can be found in a folder within the club area of the clubhouse or on the blogsite.

There is a summer league competition (Catlaw Competition) each Sunday though to Friday either from the white or yellow tees, with the seniors holding a counting competition every Thursday.  The Saturday competitions have two periods of a tee priority, from 07:30 to 08:37 and 11:37 to 12:07.  When a player chooses to play in these times it is through a draw process.  This is to allow members to meet other members and get a game of golf on a weekend.  All monthly medals are drawn in handicap order within the tee priority tee times.  To enter the draw all players must enter the competition by midday Thursday prior to the competition.  This can be done by entering online by going to the HowDidiDo site.  The process is as follows:

1.     Go to the HowDidiDo website or App

2.     Log In

3.     On the top toolbar click on the Booking Tab

4.     In the booking tab click Book Now

5.     Choose Booking Zone

6.     Enter your name and confirm

The draw for the tee priorities will be published on the Gent's blog site on Thursday evening.

Playing in the Saturday competitions out with these priority tee times can be done by the player(s) booking a tee time anytime after 12:45 and letting the Competition Secretary be aware.

Competitions played on any other day of the week it is the responsibility of the players to book their own tee time.

In all competitions every player must Sign In for the competition prior to teeing off.  This allows the competition secretary to reconcile all the scorecards returned in the competition.  To Sign In, players should go to the HowDidiDo website or App or to the Clubhouse PSI terminal, click on Todays Golf and click on Sign In for the appropriate competition.

All competitions have an entry fee (£1) an optional sweep (£1) an optional 2’s (50p).  These fees must be paid before teeing off in the competition.  The monies must be placed in an envelope marked with PLAYERS NAME, COMPETITION NAME, DATE, AMOUNT OF MONEY IN THE ENVELOPE.  The envelope must be posted in the Gent's scorebox in the Clubhouse, which is to the left of the Clubhouse PSI terminal.

When the competition is complete the results will be published on the blog site as soon as possible.  The sweep pot is paid out to the top 3 places on roughly the following basis, 1st place 50% of the total pot, 2nd place 30% and 3rd place 20%.  The magic 2’s pot is divided between all the 2’s returned on the day.

During the summer, the club have 3 knockout competitions to play in.  The Summer Singles, Summer Doubles (4BBB) and Summer Foursomes.  These can be entered online by going to the HowDidiDo website or app, clicking on Knockouts, click on View Info for the competition you wish to enter, click Enter Knockout.

If you haven’t found a playing partner, please send your name by email or text to the competition secretary, we’ll then pair you up with someone who is also looking for a partner.

Trophy winners will receive their prize at the annual prizegiving at the end of the season

Winter competitions start in November with a Winter League played over the winter course and the Rannaleroch Winter League which is played over the full course when available.  Winter singles and doubles knockouts are other forms of competition available for the winter months.
