Beat the green fee increase

It was announced at the club AGM on Friday evening that there will be a small rise in green fee subscriptions next year, amounting on average to approximately 3%. The increase is due to rising costs and the forthcoming increase in VAT from 4 January 2011. However as an incentive for early renewal, any member who pays their 2011 subscription before 31 December will be able to do so at the 2010 rates. Please contact David Norman if you wish to take advantage of this offer.

Winter has arrived - at least for competitions

The draws for the winter singles and doubles matchplay competitions have been made and are posted in the clubhouse. There are five preliminary ties in the singles competitions that are due to be completed this month so please let me know if you are likely to have any difficulty meeting the relevant date.

The winter league starts today and sign in sheets are in the competition folder adjacent to the PSI terminal in the clubhouse. As the winter league is run manually rather than on Club 2000, just put your completed score cards in the box. Handicaps will be amended on a weekly basis after close of play every Saturday. The sweep and 2's competition are optional and run all week (from Sunday to Saturday).

Match Versus Whitemoss G.C. Sunday 26th September

Received a call form Whitemoss saying they are unable to raise the numbers for a team for this Sundays match therefore they have had to cancel the match.
Thankyou all for playing in the matches this season, they were great fun, it is unfortunate that this one could not have been played however, we have had a very successful season winning 4 and losing just 1 of our matches.

Summer Knockout Foursomes Winners

On a very damp Sunday morning it felt far from summer the final of the foursomes was played between Scott Murray/Brian Alexander and Ian Taylor/David Douglas.
Scott and Brian started brightly winning the opening two holes but they were pegged back and at the turn were two down. A win at the the 11th for Ian and David was followed by wins for Scott and Brian on 12 and 15 but a 10 foot putt by Ian on the 16th and a half on 17 meant a win 2 and 1 for Ian and David.
Worthy finalists and delighted winners.

Thus the winners of this years knockout competitions were.

Singles- Mark Tinker.
Four-ball- Norman Dyce and Gary McLuskey.
Foursomes- Ian Taylor and David Douglas.

Summer Matchplay Singles Knockout Champion

The final of this years competition was played at a breezy Strathmore last night with Mark Tinker playing Joel Grant. Joel had a slow start and found himself 5 down after 7 holes but mounted a bit of a comeback early in the back nine. However Mark prevailed and won on the 16th 4 and 2.
A lot of golf has to be played to get to the final of this competition and both deserve credit for getting through but congratulations to Mark for his overall victory.

Summer Four Ball Knockout Champions

Well well our winning duo are Norman Dyce and Gary McLuskey who overcame David Johnston and David Norman 3 and 2 over Strathmore on a windy Sunday afternoon. Draw for Gents Invitation Day - Saturday 4 September

We have our fifth inter club match of the season when we play in Perth against King James a week on Sunday. A team of 12 is needed for this match and the sign up sheet is on the match board in the changing room. Looking to make it four wins for the season, now the away day is cancelled a chance to play a new course for whoever wishes to play.

Gents Invitation Day - Saturday 4 September

The invitation day has attracted a good level of support and final arrangements are in hand. In order to allow score cards and other preparations to finalised ahead of the event would members taking part please add the name of their guest to the entry sheet in the clubhouse.
A raffle will take place on the day to help underwrite the cost of prizes (Prize fund of £300) and members are invited to donate a prize for the raffle - please contact any committee member accordingly.

Gents Away Day - Saturday 11 September

The away day, scheduled for Saturday 11 September at Aberfeldy, has attracted little support to date with only 13 members having indicated their attendance. This level of support is insufficient to make the outing financially viable. The situation will be reviewed on Saturday 28 August and unless there is more support, the outing will be cancelled. If any members do intend to support this outing but will not be in the clubhouse before Saturday afternoon, please contact a committee member to notify your intentions. A further update will appear on this blog on Saturday evening.

Bell Trophy Semi-Final Result Strathmore G.C. 1-4 Blairgowrie G.C.

Our teams great run in the Perth and Kinross Bell Trophy came to an end as tonight's semi-final ended in defeat. Blairgowrie performed well and move into the final versus Dunkeld and Birnam next weekend over the Kings Course at Gleneagles.
Three defeats for Donald, Mark and Scott coupled with two halved matches from Norman and Jerry(who came back from being 5 down) put paid to our chances.
The team have however performed so well during their run and along with Iain Butchart and Phil Johnstone have done us all proud.
Always next year.
