Scratch League team into semi-finals
Congratulations to our scratch league team for progressing to the semi-finals where they will face either Blairgowrie or Craigie Hill. Although going down 3-2 to King James VI on the Island last night, the 5-0 home win two weeks ago saw the team progress 7-3 overall. Last night saw the team made up of Scott Thomson, Scott Robertson, Norman Dyce, Rory Tinker and Kevin James with both Scotts winning their games while Norman, Rory and Kevin were narrowly beaten.
The semi-final is a home and away affair with the away leg being played on 27 July and the home leg on 3 August. Best of luck in both these ties!

Finals Day
Saturday dawned with a forecast of impending doom and waterproofs seemed to be the order of the day. Fortunately the worst of the weather failed to make it to Strathmore and instead we were rewarded with some spectacular golf from all of the finals played.
The Club Championship saw Norman Dyce out of the blocks very quickly in both the morning and afternoon rounds. Starting the second round with a two hole advantage over Scott Thomson, Norman shot birdie, birdie, birdie, par, eagle to be five under par after the first five holes and stamped an unassailable lead on the match, despite Scott shooting a very respectable level par score over these holes. Scott fought back and steadied the ship over the next few hole however the match finished after the 33rd hole with Norman winning 5&3.
The Tankard Final between Jack Scott and Stewart Flannigan started out in waterproofs with the early advantage going to Jack. However in a very close match with the lead for either player always being narrow, the match finished in shirt sleeves with Stewart the victor on the 17th.
Elsewhere on finals day, the Brodie family pulled off an impressive double with Michael coming from behind to become Junior Club Champion with a 2+1 victory over Brad Bannerman and Kirsty becoming Ladies Club Champion in a match where the lead changed hands several time, eventually finishing on the 36th hole where she defeated Dawn Butchart, 2 up.
In the 5th final match of the day, Kay Finlay won the Ladies Rosebowl final with a victory over Edith Ralston.
A great day for all, despite some rain and overcast skies, with some very impressive golf played by all the finalist. Thanks must go to the Centre for ensuring plenty of time and space on course for all the matches and to the greenkeeping staff for presenting the couse in first class condition. Finally thanks must go to all those who spectated for the support and encouragment given to all the finalists and who were rewarded by a feast of hard fought, competitive matchplay golf.
The finalists receiving their awards from Lady Captain Jane Douglas are pictured below. Unfortunately Jack Scott had to leave before the presentation.

Exposed Bunker Linings
As members will be aware the linings in some bunkers have become exposed, posing a threat to player safety and the possibility of further damage if a ball is played from or close to the exposed liner. Players are entitled to relief in such situations as the exposed portion of bunker lining is an immovable obstruction. The attached information sheet has been posted in the clubhouse, outlining the rule regarding releief in such situations:

Sunset Challenge - Postponed
Unfortunately, due to a lack of numbers, the annual Sunset Challenge match between the Gents and Seniors due to take place today has been postponed. This event has suffered from a lack of support over the past few seasons and in the hope of attracting better support, the match will be re-arranged to a mid-week evening in the next few weeks. Once arrangements have been concluded, further details will appear on this blog and in the clubhouse.

Scratch League Quarter Final - Leg 1
In the first leg of the home and away quarter final matches against King James VI played at Strathmore on Friday evening our team of Norman Dyce, Scott Thomson, Rory Tinker, Michael Brodie and Matthew Bell scored a very impressive 5 - 0 victory. Solid performances from all five players in miserable wet conditions results in the team needing half a point from the second leg at King James VI on Friday 13 July to progress to the semi finals. Well done and best of luck for the next leg.
