What a Weekend!

Last weekend saw the Club's Captains Day Competition take place, with all the usual fun prizes, donated by the Captain up for grabs. An excellent fun day was had by all and our Congratulations go to Alan Jones for taking the overall prize.

Following hard on the heels of Captains Day was the inaugural Radio Tay Cash For Kids Strokeplay Trophy. No less that 100 players turned out for this event, and found the course in immaculate condition, though the Strathmore Breeze did cause most of the visitors a few problems. The auctions and raffles raised in the region of £5000, which is a tidy sum for a first time out event. Thanks to all Strathmore members who played in the event.

This Blog

The Strathmore Gent's Section Blog, as the opening title says, is an avenue to provide information to Strathmore Golf Club members, provide details on upcoming events, publish results, and the odd tale from the course. As with all Blogs, a comment facility has been available, allowing members to provide witty interaction or general comment.

This is a privately run blog run on behalf of all Gent's Section members, and recent comments have become no more than attacks and complaints over decisions taken by the Gent's Section Committee on behalf of it's members. The Club has a notified procedure for complaints, using the e-mail provided on this Blog, therefore the ability to post Comments has been removed by the Blog Team until further notice.

This blog will NOT be used to promote/endorse or give voice to any agenda by any member of the Club, it merely serves as an information portal and will always remain that way.

Cash For Kids - Sunday 24th May

On Sunday 24th May, Radio Tay's Cash For Kids Charity comes to Strathmore, with the Strathmore Golf Centre hosting the annual Cash for Kid's Golf Competition.

Every year Cash for Kids assists around 25,000 children and young people most in need or at risk. Just about a month ago, the Charity handed out over £200,000 to such causes. Most of the money goes to handicapped children and organisations who work with these children but a small percentage goes to help other kids too.

For example, Cash for Kids gave a substantial amount to young Matthew Sime to help with travel costs for his visit later this summer to America to participate in the Wee Wonders championship in North Carolina and Blairgowrie High School received a cheque for £25,000 to promote sports events. These are just two examples of how the charity helps locally.

As such, Strathmore Golf Club is proud to be running this event on behalf of the Centre, and would like to encourage as many members as possible to take part. There some excellent cash prizes on offer, and also autographed items from Scotland's own Ryder Cup Captain, Colin Montgomery. If contributing to this worthy cause doesn't persuade you to enter, then perhaps the fact that Colin has promised to present the prizes should circumstances allow will.

Entry forms and full details can be found around the Clubhouse, and the Club hopes that as many of you as possible sign up for this great event.

Junior Eligibility For Gent's Competitions

Due to the concerns raised by members of the Gent’s Section regarding juniors playing in Gent’s Competitions the Section Committee approved the following proposal by a majority at the monthly meeting held on Tuesday 28th April 2009.

‘Only juniors who have attained the age of 15 and have a current CONGU handicap will be permitted to play in any weekend Gent’s competition. Juniors of any age provided they have a current CONGU handicap are permitted to play in any Wednesday competition as these competitions are not drawn’.

After subsequent meetings with the Management of Strathmore Golf Centre, this ruling will come into immediate effect and be subject to review at the Gent's Section AGM on Friday 23rd October 2009, at which time the Gent's membership will decide on the future policy regarding Gent's Competition eligibility for Juniors.
